Affordable water at heart of Riverina Water’s 2021-22 plans

May 04, 2021

Residents and businesses across the southern Riverina will continue to benefit from some of the most affordable water charges and fees in the state.

Riverina Water’s 2021-22 financial plan will keep the annual access charge at $160 for the third year in a row.

Usage charges will increase by a modest 1.8 per cent – which equates to $9 per annum on a typical residential bill – after being frozen for the past two years.

“We are committed to providing safe and reliable drinking water at the lowest sustainable cost,” Riverina Water Chairperson, Councillor Greg Verdon, said.

“A low, fixed access charge means you have greater control of your bill through your water usage.

“Our access fee was almost $20 cheaper than the state median in 2019-20 and we are proud to be able to keep water costs affordable for our community.”

Riverina Water’s developer charges will be kept on hold in 2021-22 and are forecast to be reduce in the coming years.

Clr Verdon said the pricing structure is part of Riverina Water’s Delivery Program and Operational Plan for 2021/22, which is currently on public exhibition.

“By keeping developer costs at a minimum we can foster growth across our supply area,” he said. “All proposed fees and charges for the next financial year are on public exhibition and I encourage community members and businesses to review the plans and submit their feedback.”
